The Boss Babe Series: Get Sorted With Kelsey

Kelsey Marion – the Boss Babe behind Get Sorted

I recently met up with Kelsey Marion, the boss babe behind Get Sorted, a non-judgemental decluttering and organizing service, to find out what inspired her to start her own business, why she loves being her own boss and what makes her tick.

As an enthusiastic professional organizing expert, Kelsey aims to help people release their limiting beliefs and emotions surrounding clutter. With a degree in social work and a background in visual arts, Get Sorted is the perfect blend of Kelsey’s strengths, and she is thrilled to bring the joy of uncluttered living to Toronto.

Kelsey started Get Sorted out of necessity. ‘I was super disorganized years ago, in all imaginable categories – personally, financially, academically. I didn’t realize how much it was holding me back. Being disorganized and living in clutter caused a lot of anxiety and unnecessary stress. I buckled down and began my journey of getting sorted. I felt so much lighter and more confident and I began to realize that there are so many people like me who are being held back by their own clutter and disorganization. Get Sorted was born out of necessity and grew from there.’

That doesn’t mean that Kelsey’s path to boss babe status has been easy. ‘If you had told me two years ago that I was going to start my own business, create social media accounts and consistent content to build my brand, I wouldn’t have believed you! I was very intimidated by the thought of admitting that I wanted to start my own business and showcase to the world that I had something to offer.’

Luckily, she overcame this fear, and credits starting her own business with forcing her outside of her comfort zone. ‘The best part about owning your own business is that it becomes a part of your own personal growth. When you own a business, you are often pushed out of your comfort zone – which is frightening, but also very exciting!’

Kelsey’s definition of a boss babe is a woman who feels empowered, strong, unstoppable and is unapologetically ambitious.

‘The biggest challenge of being an entrepreneur is the unpredictability and your inner voice. One month you will feel on top of the world, and the next you may feel burnt out. It is especially tough at the beginning, when you are trying to learn as much as you can – from building a website to marketing strategies that work best in your area to deciding on a customer service strategy – all while bringing your brand to life. You can spend all of your time doing your research and preparing to launch, but you really won’t know what will work for your business until you experience it.’

Despite this, Kelsey reminds those looking to follow in her footsteps that regardless of your wins or losses, deciding to try and give it your all is such a valuable life lesson.

When asked what advice she would give to women hoping to start their own businesses, Kelsey says: ‘Follow your gut and learn what your core values are. The combination of knowing your core values sets the foundation for your business and trusting your intuition is important because you know what is best for you and your business.’

She continues: ‘You are capable of more than you even realize. Entrepreneurial life will push you way out of your comfort zone, but it will also show you how resilient you are. And you will be amazed by the incredible community of women you meet during the process. I highly recommend joining an entrepreneurial networking group for women in your local area. You’ll find endless inspiration, motivation, and feel empowered to take your business to the next level. Community is so valuable; you need not be alone in your business journey!’
